So when the team from Gift of the Givers visited the residents with a truckload of bottled water, it was gratefully received.

On October 24, the big green Gift of the Givers truck signalled to residents that help was at hand.

The first stop was at Ukhali High School, where learners and neighbouring residents received four four-litre bottles of water.

Next, community members gathered on the roadside, where dozens received clean water.

Many residents were seen running from distant homes as their neighbours spread the word.

The final stop was at Sandovukela Primary School, where each learner received a four litre bottle of clean water.

Gift of the Givers Estcourt representative Jaaved Khan said that, in total, 1600 bottles of water were distributed on the day, adding that the recipients were extremely grateful.
