This annual event, organised by community volunteer Sherlene Gericke, is a fund-raiser for Shepstone Place Home for the Aged, which is an institution that cares for the elderly and frail.

Dozens of locals and visitors flocked to the Estcourt Methodist Church yard on Saturday between 9am and 1pm to score Christmas bargains.

From freshly fried samoosas to homemade novelty knitted jerseys, there was something for everyone.

The children were kept busy with colouring in and face painting at a kids zone, while parents browsed the variety of stalls.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was a visit from Santa Claus (Shawn Howlett).

Children and their parents gathered in anticipation of the arrival of the bright-red fire engine and its special guest.

Squeals of delight could be heard as Santa dismounted from the fire truck and socialised with the children.

While some shied away from the man clan in a red suit, others clamoured to have their photo taken and receive a sweet treat from the friendly bearded man, while proud parents snapped pictures on their phones.

Ms Gericke is grateful to the stallholders and the public who showed support for Shepstone Place, and requests that stall holders contact her on 073-258-1625 in January to book stalls for the next market.
