Love, fun and Valentine’s Run

With another successful event in the books, VAC looks forward to more exciting races throughout the year

For Vryheid Athletics Club (VAC), the month started with the time trial run where participants took on a challenging route and pushed themselves to achieve their best times.
The top seven finishers were: 1. Jaco Booysen – 25:25.39; 2. Nicole Landman – 27:08.57; 3. Duvan Grobbelaar – 27:17.56; 4. Jabulani Ndandwe – 27:19.11; 5. Anè Lombard – 28:40.50; 6. Bongiwe Zulu – 29:33.37; and 7. Tholiwe Hlophe – 30:14.42.
Tholiwe Hlophe was recognised as the ‘Time Trialist of the Week’ for her dedication and outstanding performance.
The annual Valentine’s Run, hosted by VAC, brought the community together on Tuesday last week for an evening of fitness, fun and friendly competition.
The event featured 2.5km and 5km races, and saw runners and walkers of all ages taking to the streets. The atmosphere was electric as the participants, dressed in their best Valentine’s-themed outfits, sprinted towards the finish line.
The race winners were as follows:
2.5km category:

Males:

1. Nhlanhla Ncube;

2. Sizwe Zwane.

Females:

1. Lily van der Nest;

2. Alissa Venter.

5km category:

Males:

1. Ndomiso Nkosi;

2. Sigcilo Mtshali.

Females:

1. Smangele Mnguni;

2. Happiness Mdluli.

A special mention goes to Laerskool Lucas Meyer for having the most entries, showing great school spirit and support for the event.

The success of the Valentine’s Run would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our sponsors.
