Muti sheep found dead at bridge

One of the fishermen said he heard the sheep make a "baa" sound as it was flung through the air

A second ‘muti sheep’ has been found, this time at the riverside near the Soofie Mosque bridge. In this instance, the sheep died.

Local fishermen who were fishing on Saturday night said that at about 7pm, four or five men walked to the side of the bridge and threw the living sheep over the side.

One of the fishermen said he heard the sheep make a “baa” sound as it was flung through the air. After the sheep hit the riverbed, the men who had thrown it over walked away and left. The fishmen investigated and saw that it was a muti sheep, similar to one that was found in Lyell Street on Monday. The one that was found in Lyell Street had a sheet tied around it and attached to the sheet were two bags containing items such as coins. This ritual is said to rid a person of a vice such as gambling or alcohol addiction. The article appeared in the Ladysmith Gazette.

The fishermen did not want to touch or disturb the sheep in any way, as they did not want the “bad voodoo” to spread to them.

The sheep was found to be wrapped in a white sheet which was holding a white plastic carry bag. In the plastic bag was muti in the form of five cent coins, an empty box of maas, some newspaper and an empty bottle of vodka.

Neither the fishermen nor members of the community know the men who killed the sheep.
