Impumelelo Supermarket opens its doors
The new supermarket marks a milestone for black female entrepreneurship in the area.
A new chapter in local business began on Saturday (August 29) when Impumelelo Supermarket officially opened its doors at the Plaza Shopping Centre in Lyell Street, creating a festive atmosphere as members of the community gathered to celebrate the new venture.
The grand opening was marked by balloons, cupcakes and plenty of excitement as shoppers and guests welcomed the new business.
Dream becomes a reality
The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the opening as a particularly proud moment.
She said the supermarket is the first black female-owned supermarket in the area, following the return of foreign nationals to their home countries.
For the new businesswoman, owning a supermarket represents the realisation of an important personal dream. She said she was excited to take the next step in her entrepreneurial journey and establish a business that can serve the needs of the local community.
Councillor officially opens supermarket
The guest of honour at the opening was Exco Councillor Thobani Dlamini, who also serves as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee for Community & Social Services at Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
Dlamini represented the mayor, who was unable to attend the event, and had the honour of officially cutting the ribbon to declare Impumelelo Supermarket open.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the start of what the owner hopes will be a successful journey for the business and a valuable addition to the local business community.
Lucky shopper wins trolley dash
The celebrations continued with a special competition that gave one lucky shopper the opportunity to take part in a trolley dash.
The delighted winner walked away with a trolley packed with groceries, adding to the excitement of the supermarket’s opening celebrations.
With its doors now officially open, Impumelelo Supermarket aims to become a convenient shopping destination while contributing to entrepreneurship and economic participation in the local community.
