Lively discussion at Book Club meeting

A meeting of avid bibliophiles on Saturday morning led to a lively discussion about a wide variety of books.

Members of the Newcastle Book Club expressed a yearning to rediscover the pleasure of escaping into a world of fiction, which they rarely make time for as professionals and parents.

While each member’s preference in reading matter ranged from science fiction and the paranormal to romance and drama, and yes, even ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, they shared common reasons for wanting to be a part of the Book Club.

Nearly everyone conceded to having close friends and colleagues who also love to read and with whom they’ve shared many great books and bookish conversations. However, being part of a Book Club allows bookworms to meet interesting people, whose take on a book might offer a new perspective different from their own.

Members of the Book Club said they also looked forward to reading books that they would not otherwise have read, by being exposed to literary tastes that differ from their own.

Finally, some books just need to be discussed. Sometimes we all have our own idea about what a great book means, but we understand it so much better after having talked about it, and finally, while it’s fun to chat, the opportunity also exists to make and keep great friends. For animated talks with like-minded, smart, interesting, funny, and well-read people who share your bibliophilia, join the Book Club at its next meeting, which takes place on November 16 at 10am at the Mother Earth restaurant.
