Young Dundee hockey star seeks support for Europe tour

Promising hockey player Ashley Mavuso is appealing for community support to help fund her European tour.

Promising Sarel Cilliers High School hockey player Ashley Mavuso is appealing to the community for financial support to help fund an international tour to Europe.

The tour will allow Ashley to compete against international teams, gain valuable experience and showcase her talent on the global stage.

Ashley has already established herself as one of the region’s rising hockey stars. She has been selected for the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Country District team and was recently recognised as the Most Promising Senior Hockey Player.

Ashley said hockey has played a significant role in shaping her character.

“Every time I step onto the field, I challenge myself to improve. Hockey has taught me discipline, teamwork, resilience and how to stay calm under pressure,” she said.

She added that representing her school and district had motivated her to work even harder.

“Hockey is more than just a game to me. It has built my confidence, strengthened my character and inspired me to always give my best, both on and off the field.”

Ashley’s mother, Wendy Mwelase, is leading the fundraising campaign and has appealed to businesses, community members and sports supporters to help make the tour possible.

“Every donation, no matter the amount, brings Ashley one step closer to achieving her dream of competing internationally,” she said.

Those wishing to support Ashley can contact Wendy Mwelase on 082 772 8835. Donations can also be made into the fundraising account: Capitec Bank, Account No. 1202023485.

Ashley and her family hope the community will rally behind the talented young sportswoman as she prepares for this exciting international opportunity.
