Dog succumbs to deadly restraints

The bloody fatal chains of restraint are all that remain of a honey-coloured, gentle-natured Boerbul that was discovered by the Estcourt and District SPCA on Saturday.
It is the sad reality of chaining an animal.
The dog was spotted chained to a fence along Old Main Road and this was reported to the SPCA.

The chain acting like a garrotte had sliced open the skin. “And the dog still wags its tail at you. It was friendly and tame,” said Ms Clements, shaking her head in disappointment, adding that nobody came forward to claim the dog. The dog was taken away from its cruel refines and transported to the SPCA.
“We have to clip the chain off with pliers. The dog had no collar. The wounds were very serious so the dog had to be euthanised,” commented Ms Clements.
The bloodied and mangled chain is a grim reminder that some dogs are still victims to chaining.
“People who are chaining their dogs, please stop. This is not good and the end results are even worse. Your dog could turn on you,” she added.
