Winnie Maisela reaches new heights
In addition to running a crèche with six staff members and now 104 children from birth to five-years-old, Ms Maisela has started a women’s group for unemployed women to learn various arts and crafts which they are able to sell
Winnie Maisela is Principal of the Thubelilhle Creche in the Emgedandaba suburb of Loskop. In 1990 she had come across a little girl who had been raped and realised the need for a crèche in the area.
In 1990 with motivation from the late Barbara Stockil of Winterton, who she had met through the Women’s Institute, she opened a crèche with 45 children.
Winnie was widowed and had five children to support.
In 1994 with guidance from Renee Stockil, daughter-in- law of Barbara Stockil she started studying towards her matric.
She then went on to complete her Early Childhood Diploma from Universal College Outcomes, completing Level four in 2011 and Level five Higher Grade Diploma in May 2013

Maisela’s five children, two girls and three boys have all done extremely well after leaving school.
