Henry throws the Mo gauntlet down

Instead of urging just one person to support Movember, Henry de Swardt is challenging his entire circle of clients and peers.

The sales team leader for Nashua has thrown down the Mo gauntlet to his fellow Sakekamer members, his clients and all of his 1 000-plus friends on social networking site, Facebook.

“If they won’t grow, they must still make a donation,” Mr de Swardt insisted.

He believes it is crucial for men to pledge either their donation, their faces, or both to the Movember cause, in doing so stepping up as real leaders in the community.

“Even if you don’t grow a Mo, you can pledge financially.”

Speaking personally on those friends he has lost to cancer, Mr de Swardt said the fact that the disease could affect anyone meant he was compelled to work in aid of humanity in his health.

“Cancer can happen to anyone, and I would want someone to care if it was me.”

Mr de Swardt said although there were success stories and many people had beaten cancer, he believes in the old Biblical adage of ‘a person sows what they reap’.

In serving others, Mr de Swardt held a two-year tenure on the committee of CANSA Newcastle.

Three years ago, he was among many men who cultivated a bristly Mo to highlight the importance of uniting against cancer forms, dedicating his growth to close friends who had given up the fight.

“I don’t normally have facial hair, but I feel this can make a difference.”

This year, Mr de Swardt is certain every time he meets with one of his clients, the moustache acts as a notice board promoting the fight against cancer and inspiring more interest.

His style of Mo will be gasoline-fuelled ‘Trucker’.

“My top tip is to keep your razor blades on the highest shelf so when you reach up, you can look at yourself and imagine the Mo growing faster.”
