Suspected drug lord takes on two beefy cops
A suspected drug dealer, desperate to flee his shack, tried to push past two beefy police officers who battled to restrain him but eventually managed to cuff him to a wheelbarrow.
A suspected drug dealer was cuffed to a wheelbarrow after he boldly tried to shove two beefy cops out of his way and make a run for it.
Visible Policing (Vispol) commander, Lietenant Colonel Enos Mdhlalose and Crime Prevention commander, Mangaliso Mabizela, were forced to engage in a physical scuffle with the man to restrain him and prevent him from fleeing his shack in Section 7, Madadeni.
The officers had been patrolling around the shops owned by foreign South Africans following recurring robberies in the area.
“We are aware of reports that there is a specific shack in the area where people buy drugs. When the suspect saw the police vehicle, he ran into the shack. We stopped and told him we wanted to search his shack, and he started to physically try to push past us,” said Lt Col Mdhlalose.
“We struggled to restrain him, but finally managed to cuff him to a wheelbarrow. There was a hole in the ground in a corner of the shack covered with a piece of cardboard. When we lifted the cardboard, we discovered a milk tin. Inside the milk tin, was the dagga. When he saw he was caught, the man started apologising. I explained that possession of drugs was serious and he couldn’t expect to get away with an apology.”
The man was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer besides possession of drugs.
Police recovered 74 pokes of dagga and a quarter of a mandrax tablet and arrested two more men for possession of drugs the same afternoon.
“A high school boy was killed in the vicinity of the suspect’s shack last week and we believe the boy had been heading to the shack to buy drugs when the incident occurred. Drugs are the root cause of other crimes in the area, like robberies, assault and murder. If we can arrest the drug lords, crime will decrease considerably and maybe people can start to feel safe in their homes again,” said Lt Col Mdhlalose.
“We will definitely increase our operations over the festive season, when there is always a spike in crime. This festive season we are going all out to meet the criminals head on,” added Officer Mabizela.
