Owl found in flower pot
They tried to catch it, but it in turn tried to bite them
An owl was found in a garden in Farquhar Road this morning (Thursday).
Residents of the property in question woke up to an owl lying in a flower bed in their garden. They tried to catch it, but it in turn tried to bite them. That’s when they called upon the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) for assistance.
Annamarie Koen from the league managed to catch it and immediately took it to the Ladysmith Veterinary Clinic for a checkup. One of the vets examined the bird and could not find any injuries or broken bones. The owl was fed some high-energy, high-protein food, which it ate voraciously and seemed to enjoy.
It is unclear as to why it was in the flower bed and did not fly away. It is believed to be a juvenile African Spotted Eagle Owl.
The vets will be taking it to Estcourt, where it will join a rehabilitation centre.
