Donors galore at ‘O So Special’ day
Many donors lent their arms and support to the day.
One person’s blood can make a world of difference to another.
That was the crucial message emphasised at the Newcastle Donor Centre’s ‘O So Special’ day.
Staff of the Newcastle branch of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), were pleased at the fantastic turnout, with numerous donors offering their own gift of life.
Every donor was presented with gifts and doughnuts, sponsored by Pick n Pay Newcastle Mall.
“To save lives is very important,” said committed plasma donor, Adriaan Hough, who donated his 61st unit and intends to achieve a total of 65 units by the year’s end.
Koos Ferreira, who gave his 88th unit of blood, agreed wholeheartedly.
“If you see that only about one per cent of the country donates blood, one person can really make a difference.”
Other donors included Kunpin Yang, Annie van den Bergh (35 units), Nico Schwartz (62 units) and Shanitha Durgadin (five units).
The total number of units accumulated on the ‘O So Special’ day will be released soon.
