Robbers arrested after targeting delivery vehicle
The truck driver refused to pull over and the robbers in the BMW responded by firing shots at the vehicle
Elandslaagte police recently arrested robbers who targeted a bakery delivery vehicle.
On Monday, January 20, at about 1.30pm, the delivery vehicle was travelling along the Collings Pass Road in the Elandslaagte area when the occupants of a BMW tried to stop the truck. The truck driver refused to pull over and the robbers in the BMW responded by firing shots at the vehicle, damaging it. The occupants of the truck still managed to get away.
A passerby who heard the commotion contacted police and within minutes, Elandslaagte police officers spotted the BMW in the vicinity of the incident. The vehicle was stopped and searched. Police arrested the four people in the car and recovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol, the serial number of which had been removed. Five rounds of ammunition were also seized.
The suspects – aged 23, 27, 28 and 31 – appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last week on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
