Bat-a-Thon success
The batting went on for the planned 50 hours without a hitch
A Guinness World Record attempt in the form of a 50-hour Bat-a-Thon was held at the Indoor Sports Complex on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The clock started at 3pm on Friday afternoon and was stopped at 5pm on Sunday afternoon. The opening saw Mayor Vincent Madlala, NDCU president Mr Rehaz Khan and NDCU / KZNCU HLVP Mr Kharva giving speeches before the cutting of the ribbon.
The batting started with Sheldon Mungroo occupying the crease for the first half hour.
The Indoor Sports Complex was filled with stalls selling food items, jewellery, clothing and all sorts of other interesting things. The field behind the centre was an array of colour, with fun rides for the children courtesy of Rainbow Inflatables.
Various competitions were also held, such as the Thunee Competition, Pool Competition, Show ‘n Shine and Sound Competition.
There was also lots of musical entertainment with bands such as The Expectations, Spank and Prakash Orchestra showing just why they have become crowd favourites in town. Other entertainment included models from Nisa’s Modelling Academy, a bikers procession and a display by Sharaj Ambulance Services.
The weekend was jam-packed with activity surrounding the history-making world record attempt!
The batting went on for the planned 50 hours without a hitch, except for one man who broke his nose. Now all that’s needed is for Guinness to verify the record. The proceeds of the event will be split between Cansa and Child Welfare. The organisers would like to thank all the sponsors and supporters who made this event possible.
