Dundee is to host a spectacular Blast From the Past airshow at the local airfield.  The big, event scheduled for May 17, has the blessing of the KZN Treasury Department who last year sent a ‘crack team’ here to look at ways of rehabilitating the much-maligned airfield.

The event forms past of the KZN Winter Air Tour that incorporates Dundee, Newcastle and Ladysmith.  Good news for Dundee is that the town is first on the list.

Johan Pieters of Champ Marketing whose company has promoted and arranged the bumper Newcastle Airshow for four years believes it is an ideal marketing opportunity of Dundee and the battlefields.

The emphasis is on vintage aircraft – hence the theme Blast from the Past – with a Tiger Moth and  other classic planes here.

However, there will also be  display by the L29 fighter jets. a sky diving display and air flips.

The event will also be an opportunity for local crafters to display their creations while food and drink stalls will also be available with the emphasis on local people getting the opportunities.

The runway, security fencing and safety is to be also upgraded at the airfield as airshow safety is paramount, Mr Pieters said.
