Hammer of justice comes down on child rapist

Convicted child rapist, Mzothule Sizwe Gwala, was handed five life sentences in the Vryheid Regional Court on Wednesday, February 19, for repeatedly raping a 10 year old girl in December of 2010.

“The sentences will not run concurrently,” said Captain Thulani Zwane, “meaning that he will serve his 125 years in prison”.

On December 8, 2010, Gwala accosted the child, who had been walking to a shop and forced her into his house, where he raped her.

Despite threats from her attacker that he would kill her if she told anyone of the incident, she told her parents, who reported the matter to police.

According to Captain Zwane, it had also come to light that Gwala, also referred to as Gabela, had raped the girl on more than one occasion.

He was convicted on five counts of rape.

“This is a victory to the SAPS, as crimes against women and children are one of our priority crimes in the province,” said Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, who commended the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for their hard work in bringing the rapist to justice.
