Fleeing driver arrested

The motorist jumped out of the car and ran into nearby bushes

Public Safety officers arrested a motorist at a roadblock in Burger Street this morning (Friday) after he initially tried to escape.

The driver of a green Opel Corsa was spotted making a U-turn and was stopped by the officers at the roadblock. Suddenly, without warning, the motorist jumped out of the car and ran into nearby bushes at the side of the road.

The officers immediately gave chase, but the suspect initially managed to elude capture. After about an hour of hunting through head-high grass, the man decided to return to his car and hand himself over. He was slightly injured from a fall while trying to ‘leg it’ into the bushes. He had scraped his arm.

The suspect was arrested for defeating the course of justice and not being in possession of a driver’s licence. K9 Unit officers arrived at the scene after the suspect had been arrested.
