A house built for Bhekisisa

After years of promising, the disabled citizen finally received his home - less than a month before elections.

Sometimes it takes an election to get what is needed. For disabled Bhekisisa Nxumalo, a three-year battle for a house became a reality today when the keys to his new house were handed to him by Premier Senzo Mchunu and Human Settlement MEC,  Ravi Pillay.
The disabled young man, who is also a musician, was promised a new home in March 2011 after his Craigside shack collapsed. This never materialised.
He was later promised another house elsewhere by the Umzinyathi District Municipality. When this never materialised either, the Courier took up his cause.  This resulted in his new house being built in the new extension.

Bhekisisa told the Premier although he is disabled he ‘does not want people to feel sorry for him’.

Premier Mchunu described Bhekisisa as an active citizen.

The ANC roadshow ended with a meeting at the stadium with an announcement that over 725 new homes would be built in Dundee.
