May 7 declared a public holiday to vote
South Africans can now look forward to a sixth paid public holiday in the space of eight weeks.

The 5th National Elections since 1994 will be held on Wednesday next week. The day has been declared a public holiday by the president.
President Jacob Zuma announced that this year’s General Elections will take place on May 7 in terms of the Public Holidays Act (Act 36 of 1994) to enable people to cast their votes. The day has been proclaimed a public holiday.
South Africans can now look forward to a sixth paid public holiday in the space of eight weeks. While many people are happy about the holiday, as they won’t have any problems going to the voting stations, so many public holidays in such a short space of time is very disruptive to industry and business in general.
In any event, South Africans will head to the polls on the day in the knowledge that these are historic elections, as they take place on the 20th anniversary of democracy in our country.
