The Tekkie Tax is due
Pay the Tekkie Tax - it's for a good cause.
Nationwide, residents are lacing up in anticipation of Tekkie Tax 2014.
Ahead of this fancy-footwear themed charity drive on May 30, residents are encouraged to purchase and wear their stickers, representing organisations targeting animals, basic family care, children, disability and education.
Funky shoelaces and tags are available for R30, and can be purchased from the official website.
The Tekkie Tax campaign is endorsed by a total of 15 of the biggest and most accountable national NGOs in the country, representing more than 1 000 local organisations.
Last year, almost R2.5-million was raised.
This amount benefited in excess of 180 local welfare organisations, with proceeds distributed last November, with the largest portion going towards the children sector.
National project organiser, Annelise de Jager, explained the importance of many organisations working together.
“Saving money is always an important issue but saving money in a fundraising campaign is vital. With 15 national welfare organisations working together, we are able to keep the costs of the project lower than any other campaign of its kind. We are not re-inventing the wheel but we are changing the face of fundraising in SA!”
Residents can choose any of the five sectors to support on Tekkie Tax day, more than one if they wish.
