Angels of Newcastle assist with special day

A simple request took a massive turn as community members took it upon themselves to give her a day filled with happiness and laughter - a wedding day.

One post on the Newcastle Classifieds Facebook page was all it took to bring together a group of people in an extraordinary way. About 40 likes and 133 comments later, the Newcastle Angels arrived and are planning to stay.

On May 10, a woman with a heavy heart asked to borrow a dress for her special day on the Newcastle Classifieds Facebook page.

A simple request took a massive turn as community members took it upon themselves to give her a day filled with happiness and laughter – a wedding day.
As developers intended, social media is a sure-fire way to reach as many people as possible, in only a limited time frame.

Although social media is known for diminishing social interaction between people, a simple post on Facebook has started a fire, burning with joy, and joined people in a way Mark Zuckerberg could only dream of.

The Newcastle Angels are a few caring members from the community who have seen a woman in need and has therefore decided to grant the simple wish of a new and now welcomed Newcastillian.

On Friday, May 16, the Newcastle Angels had their first unofficial meeting at the Newcastle Golf Club. Names were exchanged and in a matter of minutes, everyone was talking like old friends. “I am astonished,” said Nicolene Howard, member of the Newcastle Angels.

“We are all strangers to each other, but we can work together like we’ve known each other for years.” Heartache and troubled times are part of what makes us human and these women have seen and heard the cries of a person in need.

“All we really have in this world is each other. When we stand together instead of against each other, everything will be for the better,” an anonymous member stated. Along with 130 other comments on the Facebook post, a few of them read, “Wonderful people of Newcastle, you will be blessed!”

Another person wrote, “After reading this… Proud to say I live in Newcastle! Kind-hearted people!” Social media has become the voice of our time and as it ever so often seems, the battle between the negative and positive impact it holds, is endless.

One post has changed the outlook on social media and the way to respond to it. It has brought together a strong community.
Newcastle is blessed with many kind-hearted people and through one simple post by a woman in need, one can easily see exactly that.
