One step closer to stardom

LOCAL hard rock/heavy metal band, Bridge6 impressed Gauteng fans and judges alike in the final round of the Klipdrift Battle of the Bands 2014 on Thursday, May 29.
Siblings, George, Estiaan and Xanell Fritze, as well as Jaco Engelbrecht make up Bridge6. With George on vocals and guitar, Estiaan on drums, Xanell on bass guitar and Jaco on lead guitar, each member contributes to the perfect combination of raw talent and scintillating synchronicity which exists within the band’s structure.
Estiaan Fritze, who astonishes in a dazzling display of drumwork, is the founding member of Bridge6, starting the band in high school with Jaco Engelbrecht and other members who have since left the band.
George later joined the band, becoming the lead vocalist and guitarist, as well as a talented lyricist and Xanell later joined as bass guitarist, completing the group. No strangers to hard work behind their instruments, the band practises regularly, up to three times a week, sometimes more, the results of which can be heard in the precision of their playing. After Coenie Bestbier, who is currently managing the band, got them a spot at the Klipdrift Battle of the Bands 2014, arguably one of the biggest band competitions in the country, at the last minute, so to speak, the band’s popularity grew with the judges of the competition, as well as fans. Winning heat after heat, Bridge6 eventually secured a place in the semi finals and then the finals, which took place on Thursday, May 29, at Gigtyd in Boksburg, Gauteng.

Although there were many other talented bands competing, Bridge6 finished third overall, as second runners up in the competition, winning themselves a recording contract and prize money for their efforts.
And when the clock struck midnight, what better way to celebrate Estiaan, the drummer’s, birthday than with a nice, big cheque from Klipdrift and a step closer to stardom and realising their dreams.
