The Royal Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg may have come and gone, but what an exciting event it was – from a distance – for the majority of children from Weenen Primêr.
The children did not have any prize bulls or cows to show, but they can certainly feel immensely proud of their artistic prowess and efforts. Thanks to the extra-ordinary talents and gifting of their art teacher, Mrs Justine Lawrance, the children enter the Primary School Art section each year, and have been awarded a number of first prizes. This year however has proved a bumper year for the school.
Owing to distance and a lack of means to getting to the show, the children enter and then wait anxiously to see how they have fared. WOW! 2014 results were as follows:
Grade one – First.
Grade two – Commended.
Grade three – Commended.
Grade four – First.
Grade five – First.
Grade six – First.
Grade seven – Two firsts.
Heartiest congratulations to Mrs Lawrance and all the children from the school in the rural hamlet of Weenen. We are indeed proud of them all and this once again proves the potential that exists in rural areas.
