During his State of the Nation speech last Wednesday, the fifth democratic administration’s President Jacob Zuma announced that there is a lot of work to be done by South Africans to make this country better.
He asked that South Africans work together to fight poverty, inequality and unemployment, which continue to affect many people. The National Development Plan and the Presidency’s twenty-year review highlight that the rates have tripled over the past few.
Umzinyathi Municipality is to receive funding to develop infrastructure projects, mainly electrification. Local municipalities to be serviced are Nquthu, Mvoti and Msinga. This was announced in the State of the Nation speech.
In the eleven district municipalities throughout the country, Umzinyathi District Municipality was counted among the best in showing consistency in good performance in audits, expenditure and service delivery.
Education remains ‘an apex priority’ as it is the key in developing the economic growth of this country as well as skills development. Skilled workers – electricians, engineers, and plumbers – are needed to assist in building the country’s economy.
Information received by the Courier says that Umzinyathi has been handed over by a service provider for an amount estimated at R7-million. However, no comment had been received from the municipality by the time of going to press.p
