Newlyweds crash into cow
Although he said their marriage started with a 'crash', Mr Barentt expressed relief that no-one was injured.
Leslie and Tina Barentt, who were married on Monday, were lucky to have survived a collision the following day.
The couple, who said they were enthusiastic about starting their lives together, were on their way to Hazyview after leaving Cathedral Peak on Tuesday, July 15.
“We thought it would be nice to show South Africa to Tina’s parents, who are from Taiwan,” explained Mr Barentt, speaking from their stop-off point just outside Newcastle, after being rescued by Newcastle’s Mercy Care paramedics.
According to paramedics on scene, the couple were travelling with their respective families, and struck a cow just outside Ingogo.
“I just want to say, my husband saved us with his super reflexes and by remaining calm!” exclaimed Mrs Barentt. None of the seven members were injured.
However, the vehicle was severely damaged.
“We arranged with the car rental company to organise us another vehicle. I would just like to thank everybody who assisted us,” said Mr Barentt.
Although he said their marriage started with a ‘crash’, Mr Barentt expressed relief that no-one was injured.
“It can only get better for us from here,” he laughed.
