Residents still without power

The latest estimated time for completion is 8pm.

Many residents in Suryaville and Lennoxton have been without power since approximately 8pm last night.

This morning, the Newcastle Advertiser reported the power had been cut off due to a massive cable fault at the Lennoxton sub-station.

According to Lindile Zincume, the SED for Technical Services, Electrical, technicians have been working on the problem for almost 20 hours.

“We experienced a number of faults at the Lennoxton sub-station,” he said. “The problems were on the circuits for Daffodil, St Thomas and Hathorn streets, as well as Manzil Crescent.”

“The technicians are currently working on the Manzil Crescent to Daffodil Street circuit, but have already restored power to Hathorn and St Thomas street,” he explained.

The latest estimated time for completion is 8pm. The municipality has apologised for the lengthy cut off time, and are working as fast as possible to have all power restored.
