THE ANNUAL Vryheid Hospice Bowls Day was held on Saturday at the Vryheid Bowling Club, and once again a wonderful afternoon’s sporting entertainment was had by all. The weather was perfect, a beautiful sunny afternoon, and the teams set to their games with due seriousness. Novice bowlers were teamed up with someone who knew the rules of the game, and who could give advice about bias etc, and again it was remarkable how so soon wayward bowls were brought to some semblance of intent. The teams played 10 ends and then broke for afternoon tea, and what a spread they were treated to! And then another 10 ends were played, bringing the afternoon’s play to an end. The ever-generous support that Vryheid Hospice gets from the people and businesses of Vryheid made the afternoon, and the wonderful prizes, possible. Thanks must go to the following: Ace Mica, Build It, Vryheid Country Furniture, BMG, Geeks on Wheels, Cash & Carry, HMS, van der Nest Pharmacy, Werndle Jewellers, Remedia, Pasteur, Spur, Schalk van Heerden, Go Well, Habitat, Wimpy, Foti, Gary’s Garden Centre, Cilliers Oogkundiges, Dee’s, LMS, Vital Signs, Andre Nel, Family Delights, Oh My Goodness, Tide Foods, AbaQulusi Spar and Rita de Bruin. Then, of course, Vryheid Hospice would like to thank Vryheid Bowling Club for hosting the event and the players, whether novice or seasoned, who played on the day. All in all it was a lot of fun with a serious side – raising funds for Hospice.
