Municipality out and about on Mandela Day
After the laying of the foundation, the team moved to the Lyell Street taxi rank, where they were seen sweeping, picking up litter, and ensuring that the area looked spick and span

The foundation of a house being built in St Chad’s was laid on Friday as part of a Mandela Day initiative undertaken by the local municipality, Al-Imdaad Foundation and various other stakeholders.
Mayor Vincent Madlala; Deputy Mayor Sindi Mfusi; Ward 7 councillor Mr Madinane; MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu; representatives from Operation Sukuma Sakhe and the Al-Imdaad Foundation; and various other stakeholders gathered in St Chad’s for the foundation laying. The house is being built by the Al-Imdaad Foundation for Mr Mbongwa, who lives alone in a small house that is not in very good condition at all. Mr Mbongwa is physically challenged and unable to talk. The house is projected to be complete before the end of August.
After the laying of the foundation, the team moved to the Lyell Street taxi rank, where they were seen sweeping, picking up litter, and ensuring that the area looked spick and span. The community at the taxi rank were amused but impressed to see the town’s leaders getting their hands dirty to clean up the rank. Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality employees were out in numbers making a change in various places around town on the day – from painting creches to plastering and reviving buildings, to planting trees and generally cleaning up. A good day’s work!
