No water in Aloe Park area
For the past three weeks, Aloe Park residents have had ongoing water problems

Aloe Park residents are fuming after not having water from the early hours of this morning (Tuesday). This is an ongoing problem in Aloe Park.
For the past three weeks, Aloe Park residents have had ongoing water problems, with water being cut sometimes for days without any feedback from uThukela.
People living in other areas of Ladysmith (Acaciavale, Leonardsville, Farquhar Road, Egerton) have also been experiencing water cuts since last week Sunday. But they have not been affected to the extent of Aloe Park.
In Aloe Park and parts of Acaciavale, water is turned off in the morning and then back on in the afternoon on an almost daily basis.
“This is ridiculous because we are paying for water and should have it available to us all the time,” said one resident who is affected by the problem.
Another issue is that uThukela does not send out water trucks to the affected areas, and people have to battle with dry taps.
“We are now fed up. uThukela needs to catch a wake-up and do their jobs properly,” fumed Mrs Pillay, a resident of Aloe Park. “We are the ones suffering without water, not them,” she added.
Commenting on the matter, uThukela said there are burst pipes in the Egerton area, as well as other areas in town and in Steadville. uThukela workers are currently fixing the leaks.
Lashing out at uThukela, uThukela Task Team chairman Pravesh Dookhee expressed outrage at the lack of accountability by uThukela senior management.
“They never answer their phones; the only person who does is the speaker,” he explained.
The uThukela Task Team intends to raise the water issue with national government should uThukela District Municipality continue to ignore efforts to resolve the water crisis facing this town.
