Barry Hertzog Park residents ‘gatvol’

The man’s wife apparently sat and watched the savage attack occur, defenceless after her husband told her to stay in the vehicle.

A resident fell victim to a thug-like assault by partygoers wreaking havoc in Barry Hertzog Park Mini Supermarket parking lot on July 25.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, alleged, “As I rounded the corner, a vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road. I came to a standstill, exited my vehicle and politely asked the driver to move his vehicle. He refused, stating his car was ‘stuck’.”

Sensing he was in danger when a passenger confronted him, the resident allegedly pushed the passenger, and a fully-fledged brawl ensued. The man’s wife apparently sat and watched the savage attack occur, defenceless after her husband told her to stay in the vehicle.

The resident sustained injuries to his left eye, brow bone and lip. Allegedly, his eye was very blurry after the attack and made an appointment to consult with a specialist the following day.

The parking lot of the mini supermarket is notorious for late-night parties and fights, causing residents to avoid the area altogether.

A statement signed by 12 fearful residents read, “We avoid the area like the plague. We have heard of a number of incidents where people were assaulted after refusing to give the partygoers money.”

It is further alleged partygoers drive recklessly, ‘throwing doughnuts’ just metres from a pre-primary school. The residents have had enough. Threats to sign a petition in an outcry for intervention are rife on social media networks. The major safety risk is yet to be addressed.
