Dog Unit (K9) officers arrested four suspects on drug-related charges during a sting operation on Friday.

Acting on information received, the officers swooped on a house in Forbes Street in an ongoing operation to combat the town’s drug underworld. A 22-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs. Cash and 27 straws of heroin with a street value of R1400 were seized.

K9 officers then proceeded to the Ezakheni area and upon arriving at a house in B-Section, another two suspects (aged 24 and 34) were arrested for dealing in drugs. They were found to be in possession of 86 straws of heroin, 64 mandrax tablets and cash. The estimated street value of the drugs is R8000.

A fourth suspect was arrested in B-Section after policemen recovered half a kilogram of dagga with a street value of about R500. Property suspected to have been stolen was also seized at his home. The fourth suspect faces charges of possession of dagga and possession of suspected stolen property.

Today (August 25), the Forbes Street suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court and the other three suspects appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court.

It is clear that Ladysmith police intend cracking down on the town’s seedy drug underworld and with a start like this, drug dealing in Ladysmith could be dealt a serious blow.
