SAPS Corporate Communication Newcastle and the Department of Traffic held a crime and road safety awareness campaign at Drakensberg Pre-Primary School on August 18.
The purpose of the campaign was to educate children between the ages of four and six on crime, bullying at school, television age restrictions and road safety.
SAPS Captain F.S Magudulela and Ricardo van der Plank from the Traffic Department spearheaded the campaign.
“Pupils were made aware of the importance of knowing the contact details of the police and their parents or guardians. We also emphasised the fact that children should know their residential address and be aware of the dangers of playing in secluded areas unsupervised, talking to strangers and crossing roads without looking left and right.”
After the presentation, 130 eager children asked questions on the topics discussed, further instilling the knowledge imparted by officials. Overall, the day was a great success.
