Sewage causes stench

“The sewage is not treated when the leaks are fixed, so every time it leaks the waste accumulates. It is becoming a breeding ground for diseases,”

Leaking sewage on vacant land and running down Magnolia Street, Arbor Park, has become a serious cause of concern for a resident living in the suburb.

Wishing to remain anonymous, the resident claimed the leak had been ongoing for several months. “The municipality fixes the leak but does not repair the source of the problem. Almost every month sewage leaks out, posing a threat to the environment and to people in the area,” he claimed.

The resident felt the problem should be solved once and for all to stop this insalubrious state of affairs.

“The sewage is not treated when the leaks are fixed, so every time it leaks the waste accumulates. It is becoming a breeding ground for diseases,” the resident added.

Apart from fouling the air, the resident was worried the sewage could flow into storm water drains and contaminate drinking water.

The municipality communications department was contacted for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
