Water interruptions – residents thanked
"We are striving to ensure enough water supply to meet the future needs of the community."
Newcastle Municipality thanked residents for cooperation and support during scheduled water interruptions to Newcastle East, West and Buffalo Flats this week.
According to a statement released from the Municipality Communications Department, the shutdown began on September 2 and ended on September 4.
“The service interruption was due to a plant shutdown of Module 1 and 2 of the Ngagane Water Treatment Plant as part of the Emergency Plant Upgrade Project,” read the statement. “We are striving to ensure enough water supply to meet the future needs of the community.”
Explaining further, personnel said the Ngagane WPP Plant portion of the project, as well as major repair work, resulted in the plant shut down. They added this was completed well within the planned programme.
“Our sincere appreciation goes to everyone who assisted us in making sure that our customers are kept informed and enjoy a sustainable provision of water despite the challenges we had. Thank you for your commitment and focus to a common goal i.e. to get water to the people of Newcastle. It has been confirmed that the system is now operating normally, and reservoir levels are satisfactory.”
