They’ve wasted taxpayers’ money

THE AbaQulusi Residents Association (ARA) wonders if there has been any progress in the disastrous saga of the Municipal Manager’s appointment. The case was lost in the lower courts and the matter should have ended there and then.

The Mayor and the MEC Dube have wasted ratepayers and taxpayers money fighting the appointment of Dr Mthembu right up to the Constitutional Court, where they again lost the case. They don’t respond to the Vryheid Herald’s questions about why they are, in defiance of the Constitutional Court ruling, preventing Dr Mthembu from entering his office.

Not only have they wasted taxpayer’s money on a useless political vendetta but they have crippled the development of AbaQulusi by depriving us of the best qualified person for the office of Municipal Manager for more than two years. The residents of AbaQulusi do not care about the political leanings of the Municipal Manager so long as he is the best person for the job.

We need progress and we need employment for our people in AbaQulusi not this pointless political squabbling.

Now we hear that Dr Mthembu plans to sue the AbaQulusi Local municipality for his lost pay.

Who must pay this reasonable claim? Surely not the innocent ratepayers? It must be paid by those who have caused the problem out of their own personal pockets.
