ON November 20, Michaelis Kindergarten hosted their annual concert, and the performance of the children, aged between two and six, was outstanding and surpassed all expectations.

Two little hedgehogs played by Ivana Vyncke and Kelsi Hellberg, both in Grade R, woke up after their long winter sleep to a brand new world. They explored the forest and farm, meeting animals of all shapes and colours.

The audience was entertained by songs performed by the flowers, the farmer, lambs, frogs, tadpoles, bunnies, ducks, birds and insects. The storm clouds gathered and the two little hedgehogs took cover in a log and bumped into a little boy hedgehog, Larkham von Ahlften. He explained to them that the new world was caused by the change of season, spring was here!

Proud parents, family, friends and teachers applauded the little actors and actresses who performed in both German and English without the help of microphones.

We would like to thank the Michaelis children for taking us on a journey, a learning journey: After every storm comes a rainbow, and after every winter comes spring. Just because your storm may be a little longer, or have more thunder and lightning, does not mean there will be no rainbow. The rainbow always comes. You just need to find some shelter and wait until it arrives.

The children were not our only stars. Moms and Grannies worked hard to produce the most gorgeous costumes for our animals. Thank you to all of you who helped make our concert a success. Our concert would not have been complete without our magnificent backdrops which set the scene for our production, so thank you Tammy.

After the concert our Grade R children, looking ever so grown up, graduated in gowns and hats and received their certificates. The audience’s hearts melted as one by one they told us what they want to be when they grow up.

We wave goodbye to a wonderful group of children who will start their journey to becoming teachers, a hairdresser, a doctor, a dancer, a rugby player, a fighter pilot, an engineer, a farmer, a preacher, a detective or a mom.
