At Weston Agricultural College’s recent prize giving outstanding students from all five grades were awarded with prizes for their achievements in academics, sport, practical agricultural work and various aspects of leadership and character development.

Dux student was Thabo Ntombela, who also won the subject prizes for Agricultural Science, Life Science and Physical Science. Throughout his school career Ntombela has been a top academic in his grade, he was also a school prefect and head of Smyth Hostel. Close on his heels was Meluswa Mhtethwa, who was second in grade 12 and won some subject prizes; for English, Agricultural Management Practices, Best Agricultural student in grade 12 and the prize for the artificial insemination course. Mthethwa was deputy headboy, and head of Paterson House.

Headboy Michael Bauer, who is an outstanding sportsman and captained the first rugby and cricket teams; also won a number of prestigious prizes, which included the Best Senior Rugby Player, the trophy for the Best Sportsman in grade 12, the prize for Cattle Classification and the top prize of the year. He was awarded the Headmaster’s Award for the Top Student in 2014; the award is made on the evaluation of academic, sporting, and practical ability, and character and leadership.

Other grade 12 prize-winners were: Geography-Richard Winter, Isizulu-Sthembele Ngcobo, Maths Literacy – Stuart Boland, Business Studies-Simphiwe Khuzwayo, Mathematics-Miko Klages, Life Orientation-Patric Ngcobo, Agric. Technology-Reece Aitken-Smith, Afrikaans-Jake Blumenthal.
