(Consecration of Moorthies) will take place from January 16 till January 18 at the Glencoe Hindu Temple.
The Glencoe Hindu Temple was founded on April 28, 1969 by GD Raghubir, the late Messrs PR Chetty, M Rajkumar, AM Juggan, K Tooray, RS Bhagwandin, JJ Singh and M Shoebalak. Other founding members are H Juggan, HR Boodram, MA Singh, DP Govender, DS Bhagwandin, S Ramtahul, AI Singh, AV Moodley, M Kuppan and SL Sewgolam. This year the Temple will host the Maha Kumba Abishegam ceremony which is a first of its kind in Glencoe and one that occurs every 12 years.
Kumbabhishekam is a temple ritual. It is also known as Samprokshanam. Generally the devotees are seen chanting prayers and pouring water on the top of the vimana and the gopuras (religious statues and idols) of the temples with temporary scaffolding erected within and immediately outside.
Kumbabhishekam is a Sanskrit word, which is derived from two separate words ‘kumbha’ meaning pot and ‘abhisekam’ meaning anointment. It is a very intricate and thorough religious ceremony and a newly constructed shrine is considered fit for worship only after the numerous rituals associated with it are completed. The ceremony will be attended by many
priests from far and wide, including Canada and Sri Lanka, as well as local priests and the Consul General of India, Mr R Raghunathan. Lunch and supper will be provided. Soulful music will also be rendered by Dharam Maharaj, Vijaysagren Phillips and Veeramani Kannan.
Bus services will also be provided to all those wishing to attend on January 18 only. A bus will pick up passengers wishing to attend starting in Newcastle, at the Paradise Hindu Temple at 05:30am, thereafter in Dannhauser, at the Dannhauser Hindu Temple at 6:30am and in Dundee at the Dundee Hindu Temple at 7:30am. The bus service will be rendered free of charge.
Guru Krishnamoorthy once again extends a hearty welcome to all and a special welcome to the Consul General Mr R Raghunathan. Donations in cash and kind are welcomed by the Temple. Please contact chairperson Saroj Naicker on 034 393 1712 or 082 428 9520 if you wish to donate.
