“Be determined to make something of yourself, follow your dreams and be what you want to be.” These are the words of advice from Amina Hoosen whose excellent matric results have earned her second place in the Uthukela District.

The 18-year-old completed her grade 12 at Siraatul Haq Islamic School, receiving seven A symbols. Amina received distinctions in Afrikaans, Life Orientation, History, Maths, Physics, Life Sciences and Accounting. Although Amina says she is ‘glad’ about her results, she is disappointed about not received an A for English.

With Life Sciences being her favourite subject, Amina is deciding to pursue her studies in the medical field. Amina says she was motivated by her teacher’s words to learners at the beginning of the year. “Our teacher said ‘have no regrets’ and I worked towards that. My advice to matrics this year is not to be stressed out. Enjoy the year and try your best to excel,” said Amina. Due to religious reasons, Amina is not allowed to have her photograph taken.
