Campaign to stamp out drugs launched

No one questions the severity of the drug problem and its devastating impact on youth. Academic results suffer and, even worse, drugs undermine health and ‘destroy’young lives. The best solution is to reach young people with effective, fact-based drug education before they start experimenting with drugs.

The Endumeni Sukuma Sakhe in ward 5 recently embarked on an intensive campaign to knock door to door at Thusi and Madonsela Streets in Sibongile. Various government departments hit the road educating the community about the danger of drugs. “This campaign was a result of a horrific incident where a ‘gogo’ was allegedly raped by her grandsons. It is alleged that her two grandsons were heavy drug users and abused their grandmother who has since been placed in an old age home,” said Mzwakhe Sithebe, chairperson of Sukuma Sakhe in ward 5.
