What an amazing experience these learners had on the week-end of February 6 when they went to White Mountain Lodge. They had the privilege to hike up Ghost Mountain and to look at a big part of the province from the top.
The activities were not only challenging, but the learners enjoyed the building of rafts, swimming in the dam, abseiling and hiking at night. The learners were kept busy till late and were quite exhausted. Mental abilities were also put to the test when they were trying to read maps and follow clues. The learners showed good teamwork and motivation during their problem-solving activities.
Friday evening, coming back from one of the night activities, the learners had a visitor in their sleeping quarters. Some leaners thought it was an ordinary house cat but the colours and the reaction was wild. Mr. Van Rooyen identified it as a very rare black-footed tiger cat that lives in the mountains. It took Mrs. Ackerman quite a while to settle the learners and for the rest of the night the campers were on the lookout for the wild cat.
Cricket
The first half of a 50 over match against Ethangeni completed with Glencoe’s first team fielding first and bowling their opponents out in the 17th over for 48runs. Arthur Madawenda was again the best bowler with five wickets for only seven runs. The second half of the match will be concluded next week with Ethangeni bowling and Glencoe batting.
Valentine’s Day
The school hope that everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day and took the time to spoil their loved ones. At Glencoe Primary they took the opportunity to dress as red and white as possible to brighten up the day.
