Mlu Mkhize has done Round Table Ncandu ’86 proud, by being inducted as Round Table’s regional vice chairperson for Drakensberg area.

Alongside Charles Wade, the regional chairperson from Dundee, Mr Mkhize will be responsible for Round Table branches in Pietermaritzburg, Tugela Ferry, Hilton, Estcourt, Ladysmith, Dundee, Vryheid, Matatiele and of course Newcastle.

“It was an honour to be inducted. I was president of Newcastle Round Table in 2011 and this is a huge step forward in my Round Table career,” he said.

His responsibilities will now entail the well-being of Round Table branches, and ensuring their financial statements are healthy and the branches are carrying out their core responsibility of the upliftment of their relevant communities.

Enthusiastic about his new role, Mr Mkhize said it was his mission to help Round Table grow.

“I would like to recruit more members and more races, as there are a lot of people who need help and the only way we are going to know about it, is if we involve people from all walks of life,” he said.

Mr Mkhize first joined the ranks of Round Table in 2007.

“The late Dr Jai Singh introduced me to Round Table in 2006, but it was only in 2007 that I became an active member.”

Since then, Mr Mkhize said he had learned a lot from the organisation and had grown as a person.

“People always complain about their surroundings, but never do anything. However, Round Table teaches and allows you to be part of the change you want to see in the community,” he said.

Having the opportunity to play a positive role in the community was heightened through the support found within the ranks of the organisation, he continued.

“Everyone in Round Table is a friend and what better way to make a change, than making it with your friends,” he concluded.
