NATIONAL NEWS: Five dead, 50 injured in Carletonville collision

The light motor vehicle had been ripped open on impact, revealing the lifeless bodies of five women.

Five people were killed and at least 50 others injured when a bus and a light motor vehicle collided head-on near Carletonville this morning.

“ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the bus and light motor vehicle both lying on the side of the road,” said ER24 media authors. “The light motor vehicle had been completely ripped open in the collision.”

Upon inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless bodies of five women inside the light motor vehicle.

“At least 50 other patients were found on scene with minor injuries,” said media authors. “Most of the patients were children on their way to school. Paramedics from multiple services set up a staging area on scene and began treating the patients for their injuries.”

Once treated on scene, the patients were transported to nearby hospital for further care.

The cause of the collision is unknown at this stage, however, police investigations continue.
