Fifteen firearms recovered in Greytown

All the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing.

Fifteen illegal firearms are off the streets and two men behind bars, thanks to the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police Task Team.

The Task Team arrested Loma Mikha Shezi (56) and Khiphelakhe Malembe (55) for possession of unlicensed firearms it the Muden area, Greytown.

Upon searching the first man’s house, they found a 9mm pistol with five rounds of live ammunition.

When they moved to the second man’s house, they found a .38 special revolver with six live rounds of ammunition.

Both men appeared in the Greytown Magistrates Court and were granted R 1 000 bail each.

While in Greytown, the Task Team also received a tip-off about firearms hidden near the river.

Upon searching the area, they found three 303 rifles, two AK 47’s, one R5 rifle, one R1 rifle, one shotgun, three 9mm pistols, two revolvers and thirty two assorted live rounds of ammunition.

All the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of any crime in the country.
