After weeks of detectives tireously moving back and forth between various courts throughout the province in a quest to see justice done, several sexual offenders have been arrested. A number of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Units in KwaZulu-Natal now have reason to celebrate the results achieved by investigation of various sexually-related offences in KwaZulu-Natal last month.

In April the KwaZulu-Natal FCS Units arrested 349 suspects for sexually-related offences, which includes kidnapping, assaults, domestic violence, sexual assault, robbery, attempted murder, house break-in, theft, abduction and rape cases within the province.

During the same month, 51 suspects were convicted in various courts after being found guilty of sexually-related offences. Six life sentences and a total of 412 years in imprisonment were handed down to offenders by courts in the past month.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the successes and expressed her appreciation to the judicial system, which has meted out fitting sentences to rapists.

“These sentences handed down will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace, arrest and successfully prosecute them. KwaZulu-Natal police will endeavour with all its resources to prevent crimes against women and children and make the province a safer place for everyone,” she said.
