Dundee High School had a very busy week building spirits for the big Derby Day against Sarel Cilliers. DHS used their spirit week not just to work on some of their spirit songs, but also as an opportunity to collect some cans for charity. An enormous stockpile of cans were collected in the DHS spirit of giving and these will be distributed to local charities to help the less fortunate get through the winter.
DHS thanked Sarel Cilliers for travelling to DHS this year for a tough round of matches. “A lot of work went into every single team, and as the sport season draws to a close, a special thank you must be paid to every single manager, coach, parent, sponsor, captain, team member and supporter who contributed to the past season.”
The results of the day were as follows:
Netball: The DHS girls had another tough round of netball matches, unfortunately losing most of their matches. U14B: 3-12; U14A: 14-14; U15 1-13; U16B: 9-17; U16A 7-13; 2nd team won 18-7 and the first team were also defeated 11-15.
Rugby: The junior teams played their hearts out and as a result the U14’s won 19-12, as did the U15’s 17-14. The U16’s drew 12-12 but the second and first team suffered crushing defeats, losing both matches with cruel scores.
DHS is proud to announce that all the hockey teams were victorious on this momentous day!
Boys’ Hockey: The boys’ teams played really well. The first team won 2-0 with a penalty flick that was executed wonderfully by Larnell Nero. The second team also won their match 1-0.
Girls’ Hockey: The girls’ teams played exceptionally well. The U/14 girls won 2-0, the U/16 A team won 1-0, the second team won 2-1 and the first team had a beautiful game and won 2-1.
CANCER Awareness
Last Wednesday a Cancer Awareness spokesperson gave a talk on the effects of smoking and its detrimental contribution to the development of cancer. The children were shocked to hear that up to 600 000 people die due to passive smoking!!!
