Here are your champions, Sentraal

Sentraal are champions once again.

Sentraal are champions once again.

The local rugby side, sponsored by T-Shirts for Africa, ended the Northern KZN rugby league on a high note on Saturday beating Vryheid in the second division final. Despite being down at halftime, Sentraal ran out 26 points to 18 winners.

The day started with a sponsored team breakfast at Spur where players, especially Head Coach, Boy Hesom, enjoyed a well-prepared meal. The team then left for Arbor Park, Newcastle, where all the finals where played. It was a hard fought battle from the start with Vryheid taking an early lead with a well-deserved try.

Sentraal replied with a try of their own through lock Stephan Hatting, which was converted by Pierre Booysen. Vryheid then scored another try and slotted over a penalty to lead the game 13 – 7 at halftime.

It was a different Sentraal team that took the field for the second half. Winger Charles Dube ran almost the length of the field to score Sentraal’s second try.

Scrumhalf Eugene Corbitt followed that up with the teams third try after some slick handling between backs and forwards.

Pierre and Eugene each converted a try. Vryheid scored their third but it was Sentraal’s forward Tshapelo Nkoto who put the result beyond doubt with a brilliant try.

Dolf Redelinghuis was named Man of the Match for the backline and Henk Booysen for the forwards. Sentraal thanked Portos for the vouchers they sponsored for the men of the match.

Sentraal officials and players would like to thank all the sponsors and supporters of the club for their support of the team whether at home or away.

Sentraal will now face Richards Bay 2 in the Fidelity Security First Division Reserves Playoff – Brian Irvine Cup at 1pm in Pietermaritzburg.
