A running battle between police and protesters ended tragically when a young child was injured

A 4-year-old child was allegedly struck in the head by a rubber bullet fired by police during running battles between protesters and police near St Chad’s late yesterday afternoon (Monday).

The child was rushed to a nearby clinic and treated for his injuries.

The child was with his siblings outside his house watching a grader clear the rocks from Helpmekaar Road when a group of community members became violent and tried to stop the grader.

POP were on scene and had to use rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

It is alleged that one of the rounds struck the child in the head.

A case of attempted murder is being investigated.
