Police and security officials are on the lookout for thieves who cut municipal power cables on McKenzie Street in the early hours of this mornng (Friday, September 4) before fleeing the scene.

Fidelity ADT patrollers spotted the suspects cutting the cables, but they fled before they could be apprehended.

Patrollers praised for vigilance

Cllr Naresh Gopie thanked the patrollers for their vigilance in spotting the suspects.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the theft compromised the electricity supply in the area.

Scrap dealers urged to be vigilant

Fidelity ADT has urged scrap-yard owners to be on the lookout for anyone attempting to sell copper believed to have been stripped from the stolen cables.

Anyone with information about the suspects or the theft is urged to report it to the police.
